Who is a Volunteer?
A volunteer is a person who is willing to help perform any one of the necessary jobs in Team Eugene Aquatics. Your role as a volunteer is important to our sport. With a positive attitude and a willingness to lend a hand, you will also have a great impact on your child's athletic environment and love of swimming.

There are unlimited opportunities to get involved in almost any capacity. The rewards are meeting new people, making new friends, and having that great feeling that you have helped one of the organizations in which volunteers are the most important people.

Give volunteering a try. Any contribution you can make will be appreciated. Ask the coach what you can do to help. He or she will appreciate the offer and put you in touch with appropriate people on your team that will place you in an area where your best skills are used to make the swimming experience joyful for everyone on the team.

Volunteer Jobs -- Team Eugene is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. Finding a way you can contribute is the most important thing to remember.

Fund Raising
Raising funds is a priority for every swim program- it makes up the difference between operating budget and club fees. It could involve anything from a bake sale to finding corporate sponsors. Most of us are experts at spending and less expert at "raising" money, so if you have any ability here, you'll be extremely popular! Please contact: Leanne Wong at supportymcaswimming@teameugene.org

Public Relations and Publicity
Promotions within the club and community are important to every team. Volunteers skilled at public speaking or writing can be useful in this area. We want people to know about the club, its goals, aims, results, and personal stories. A journalism/writing background is helpful, but even more important is a willingness to organize results, type, and run them around town to local papers, TV and radio stations. It takes persistence, and the results are not automatically on display immediately. If you have skills here, please contact Dan and Sarah Braziel at meetdirector@teameugene.org

Newsletter
There are many ways to help with our newsletter. If you would like to contribute some writing or interviewing skills, you could be an essential part of our newsletter. Is there a theme article you would like to be in charge of? Advertising? Game- such as a monthly crossword or word search? Please contact our Newsletter Editor, Randy Melancon at newsletter@teameugene.org

Website
We want our website to be a great resource for swimmers and parents. If you would like to help with research and development (locating awesome links that others would enjoy), artwork, game pages, or photographic contributions for our team albums, please contact our webmaster@teameugene.org

Swim Meets- hospitality and concessions and help of all kinds.
Some swim meets are designed exclusively as opportunities for swimmers to compete, while others are treated strictly as fund raising events. We try to do both. Even with electronic timing and computers, it takes 30 to 45 people a day to run a good swim meet. You'll be called on plenty, and your help is vital. This is one time that money will not substitute for your physical presence. Team Eugene runs two meets per year that are very much dependent on our parent volunteers. From a fund raising perspective, the snack bar can generate tremendous amount of income, especially if items to be sold are donated by the parents or local businesses. Baked goods, fruit and other goodies tend to be very popular. We need people to time events, run the computers, be to be *qualified meet officials. Trophies, plaques, and/or prizes need to be coordinated. Separate concession areas for swimmers and coaches need food to serve and people to serve it.

Putting on a great meet takes a lot of volunteer hours, but a GREAT meet brings teams back year after year. Please contact
Karen Creighton-Manis at volunteerelf@teameugene.org

* To qualify as a meet offical, you’ll need to become a member of USA Swimming. Depending upon the requirements of your LSC, a new official may have to attend a clinic, take an official’s test, which is available on line, work as an apprentice to get your on the job training, and then … have fun! Every few years we offer clinics for the parents who are interested. Contact office@teameugene.org for more information.

Board Members
Team Eugene is a "Board" run program. The most experienced volunteers are needed for the board of director positions, for they will guide TEAM in the right direction for the future of our sport, our members, and our organization. The board meets monthly to make sure our organization is running at full speed and within the parameters of our mission statement. If you are interested, please contact our president: Andy Mollahan at president@teameugene.org

Membership
Allied to publicity, this committee helps the club attract and retain members. This can be really rewarding for new parents, as they learn much more quickly about the good things in swimming while working in this type of group. Learn-to-Swim programs provide the bulk of new swimmers to teams, and you'll be a source of information to prospective swimming families. Please contact our office manager, Lorie Leighter at office@teameugene.org

Social Events are a fun part of every team. Pool parties, Halloween costume contests, scavenger hunts, and the corn maze all serve to bond a team together. If you would like to organize such a function, or want to help with an annual event, please contact your coach or Lorie Leighter to find out who is taking charge of a particular event.

Administration
A general subheading for a vast array of jobs that include things like meet entries and operating phone trees (to get news out quickly...usually about swimming, but sometimes gossip...that's a joke!) The amount of work required to operate a swim team is amazing, and most clubs like to have a system where one person performs a task while another learns it as an apprentice...and then takes it over later on. So, many jobs are "doubles". If you can help here, please contact Lorie Leighter at office@teameugene.org

Lastly, remember that a parent organization, at its best, is a watchdog of philosophy...that same philosophy that you joined the team for. Stability is what builds the organization, and your support for that stability is the key thing you can contribute. I like the thought of "bloom where you are planted." As your child progresses in swimming, stay with your club and help it progress. Involve yourself in helping to set goals and objectives and make it great! And remember, it is all for FUN, and all for your youngster.
